Georgia School Bus Insurance Limits Hurt Everyone

Driving around metro Atlanta is dangerous enough. But when a school bus is involved, it can be even more challenging. Georgia law shields school buses, and the school systems they drive for, up to the amount of purchased liability insurance. The average school buses weigh 24,387 pounds, whereas the typical American car weighs 4,094 pounds. Georgia drivers share the road with buses six times their weight, without any minimum amount of liability coverage. It doesn't seem fair that the school bus, six times heavier, has more protection than other vehicles using the exact same roads. It can lead to life-altering financial consequences for those hurt by a school bus driver's negligence.
